When George Harrison went to India, his interest in Indian classical music was something that really inspired and influenced his songwriting. As well, his friendship with sitar master, Ravi Shankar furthered his understanding of the music’s intricacies and rhythmic patterns. George created a song called ‘The Inner Light’, featuring indian instruments like the sitar, shehnei and tabla. The song’s lyrics really bring out George’s spiritual side. While ‘The Inner Light’ was not included in any of The Beatles’ studio albums, it was released as a B-side single along with ‘Lady Madonna’.
